About the organisation

The Happy Africa Foundation is dedicated to sustainable change and progress for underprivileged communities in eastern and southern Africa. The charity aims to improve conditions socially and economically by supporting community and conservations projects at a grass roots level, and by providing relief from poverty. It develops educational and medical facilities for people with very little, offering funding and support staff where needed.

Why stuff your rucksack?

Both schools and healthcare services suffer from a desperate lack of resources in Livingstone. As a result, many children fall behind in their studies and those who are ill do not receive adequate medical treatment. Happy Africa is a lifeline for these struggling services. Thanks to the charity's work, more children attend school, adults attend literacy classes, and old people at the local care home are warm in the winter. Bring some items with you and you’ll help them continue this vital work.

How to get there

  • Livingstone has its own small airport and receives flights from Johannesburg and Lusuka. Relatively comfortable buses travel between Livingstone and Lusuka.
  • The main office of Happy Africa Zambia is on Makambo Way next to the Red Cross Centre in Livingstone.
